Speaking in Tongues

ACT  2: 1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
ACT  2: 2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
ACT  2: 3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
ACT  2: 4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  You can read the full chapter, further down this page.

Speaking in tongues was a gift granted only to the Apostles; because many people could not read   –  80% of the population at places. So how would God reach those nations with the Gospel he wanted to be preached throughout the world? He gave the Apostles the ability to speak in all languages, so that they may go out and preach the Gospel.

Some Greeks, as well as Jews,  thought the Apostles were drunk or had gone mad when they heard them speak in languages they did not understand. But then they discovered that what they witnessed was the gift Jesus promised.

Do not be fooled by con-Christians who claim to have spoken in tongues.  This does not happen today  – it was a gift only granted to the very first followers of Jesus so that they could preach to all the Nations. Today most everybody reads and writes and the Bible is translated into almost every language of the world.

Read here the proof that what I am ‘preaching’ to you (preaching meaning ‘to mimic the doctrine of another’) is 100% truth:

The Apostles were educated by Jesus, and now, after all that they had learned and experienced, they had to believe, for else they would perish! In return, they were granted the powers to lift wild snakes through faith in Christ alone and to speak all foreign languages.  After this, at a later stage, the Apostles were baptized with fire. Now they believed without doubt.

Some, however, may argue that Jesus spoke about the people the Apostles would convert:

they would receive this special gift.  If that was so then, still: it was only for those back then and not for us today. But I am certain, for there is no proof to support the opposite, that this gift was only granted to the Apostles.
The way in which the events weres translated to English, makes it sound like many people spoke in tongues, but no: the Apostles spoke in tongues to many people!

Jesus’ promise to the Apostles that they would acquire the gift of speaking in tongues.
MAR  16: 9  Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
MAR  16: 10  And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
MAR  16: 11  And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
MAR  16: 12  After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

MAR  16: 13  And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

MAR  16: 14  Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
MAR  16: 15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
MAR  16: 16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
MAR  16: 17  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
MAR  16: 18  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
MAR  16: 19  So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Does the below account reveal to us that all Christians shall be granted this same gift: speaking in tongues etc.  No: it does not; only the Apostles were granted this gift.

The way in which the account was written/translated in English sounds like many people spoke in tongues, but no: the Apostles spoke in tongues to many people!

The gift of speaking in tongues granted to the Apostles:
ACT  2: 1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
ACT  2: 2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
ACT  2: 3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
ACT  2: 4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
ACT  2: 5  And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
ACT  2: 6  Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
ACT  2: 7  And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?                                                      ACT  2: 8  And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

ACT  2: 9  Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

ACT  2: 10  Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
ACT  2: 11  Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
ACT  2: 12  And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
ACT  2: 13  Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
ACT  2: 14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
ACT  2: 15  For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

Read the Gospel to find the truth: do not follow anyone or any church, but only follow the law of God, if you believe. Examine everything through reading the Gospel your self.

...And The Gates Of Hell Shall Not Prevail Against It
Through the ages, Catholics and other Nicolaitans defied the above quotation by Jesus,
oppressing and murdering many, deceiving and misleading many more.
But they have not and shall not prevail against
'His Church'.
