The Curse of Bishop Gavin Dunbar and the Cursing Stone of Carlisle, or The Reiver’s Cursing Stone

The proclamation (defined by some as a monition to curse) of a most evil curse designed, written, or written and cast in 1525 by Roman Catholic Bishop Gavin Dunbar, upon sheep rustlers and robbers (reivers) who terrorised the border country of the United Kingdom, today known as the regions: Cumbria, Northumberland, the Borders, and Dumfries and Galloway. Bishop Gavin Dunbar ordered all Roman Catholic Priests throughout the region to read his curse aloud to their congregations.

Reading, writing or publishing of a curse is not ‘Casting’ of the curse.  And so it is clear that the curse was designed and possibly cast by Bishop Gavin Dunbar, who then proceeded to proclaim his evil act to the entire region and beyond, through his priests, who had to read the text of the curse aloud, each to their congregations.

Question 1:

The first thing that jumps to the mind when reading this curse is: how on earth a Christian could even be remotely motivated to cast a curse upon people as punishment for their sins? Did Christ not teach us not to judge so that we aren’t judged? For with the same measure we measure it shall be measured to us?  And also to forgive those who transgress against us, as well as to do good to those who do us wrong?  And this, the doctrine of Christ, tells us that no human has been granted powers to curse other humans because of their sins. How then could a Bishop of a Christian church cast such a curse?

Question 2:

Who was Gavin Dunbar? Gavin Dunbar was the third son of John Dunbar of Mochrum and Janet Stewart.  While he was  Prior of Whithorn and Dean of Moray in commendam, He was appointed Bishop of Glasgow by the self-serving and by far not holy Pope Clement VII.  Remarkably, Gavin Dunbar’s reign was blotted by contention. His physical attack on Cardinal and Archbishop David Beaton and his curse on the borders are not the most stunning highlight of his reign.

Dunbar’s archiepiscopate coincided with one of the first tides of Protestantism to enter Scotland. Dunbar played a proactive role persecuting the perceived heretics. In 1539 alone he ordered the burning of seven people (murder) including a youth named Alexander Kennedy and a Franciscan friar named Jerome Russell. On 29 February 1528, Dunbar attended the trial and signed the sentence of Patrick Hamilton  (murder) who was burned alive for six hours before dying (the faggots were wet), a death which made him one of the Scottish Reformation’s most famous martyrs. Answer:

We know that a Bishop is an administrative official, appointed by a Church organisation to his position (not by the Christian Church). Thus the Bishop is a product of ‘Christianism‘ and not of Christianity (the doctrine of Jesus). Jesus did not design any Church positions: he merely selected 12 Apostles and taught them his Gospel.

The Bishop, as the Gospel tells us, is not at all, per se, a holy Christian person; let alone an exclusively holy person with exceptional powers to curse and/or murder.  Therefore we must first look at Gavin Dunbar as a person.  And when we do, we discover that Bishop Gavin Dunbar was not a Christian: and by this callous, contradictory act alone, has declared his self an ‘Anti-Christ”. Therefore it was possible for this Bishop of the Pseudo-Catholic Church to commit this deviant, far from Christian act.

The Curse of Gavin Dunbar (1490–1547):

Examine it and note the nefarious design which God would not even consider today. For everything was turned upside-down with the New Testament.

In his foreword, the curser reaps on the lack of biblical knowledge of the laity and refers to his Roman Catholic Church as ‘The Holy Church’, while he is fully aware that his church is a Pseudo-Catholic Church.  In the same verse, he quotes ‘Terrible sword’ of the Holy Church’.  The only terrible sword of the Christian Church is the judgment of Jesus, to be delivered when he returns to Judge the earth with the resurrected Christians: NOT A CURSE!  Then, in his wicked verse,  the curser reverts to the days before the grace of Jesus came to the world and executes punishments no Christian could even imagine, let alone consider: including one punishment God literally abolished in the Old Testament: the punishment from parents, passed on to their children, unto the tenth generation.

Notable also is the fact that those days, members of the Pseudo-Christian Church, as the Roman Catholic Church was and is, as well as all those in communion with the Bishop of Rome, were not baptised into the Christian church through the church organisation the Roman Catholic Church, but were by law coerced into the Roman Church. Because, as we read,  the raiders actually were to be excommunicated from the Roman Church.  Thus it is revealed that they were not Christians but mere members of the Roman Church organisation which the masses perceived as the Catholic Church.  Today much of the same happens in the churches, Catholic or Protestant, Pseudo-Christianity rules the day: for many are called, but few are chosen, says Jesus.

Foreword to the Curse

“Good folks, hear my Archbishop of Glasgow’s letter under his round seal, directed to me or any other chaplain, makes mention and says how, with great regret, how heavy he bears the piteous, lamentable and dolorous complaint which has passed through Scotland and come to the his ears, be of open voice and good repute, how our Sovereign Lord’s true subjects, men, women and children all bought and redeemed by the precious blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ, and living by his laws pointlessly murdered, slain, burnt, hurt, despoiled and robbed, openly by daylight and under silence of the night, and their belongings and lands laid waste, and their selves driven there from, on church lands as well as others, by common traitors, reavers, and thieves dwelling in the south part of this realm, such as Teviotdale, Eskdale, Liddsdale, Ewisdale, Nithsdale, and Annanderdale; who have been in diverse ways pursued and punished by the temporal sword and our Sovereign Lord’s authority, and dread not the same.

Blasphemy, Idolatry and Spiritual Fornication of the Foreword in red

And therefore my said Lord Archbishop of Glasgow has thought it expedient to strike home with the terrible sword of the Holy Church, so that you may not need any longer endure and resist; and has charged me, or any other chaplain, to denounce, declare and proclaim them openly and generally cursed, at this market cross and all other public places.  Therefore, through power and authority of Almighty God, the Father of Heaven, his Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ and of the Holy Ghost; through the power and authority of the Blessed Virgin Saint Mary, Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and all the angels; Saint John the Baptist, and all the holy patriarchs and prophets; Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint Andro and all the holy apostles; Saint Lawrence and all the holy martyrs; Saint Giles, Saint Martin and all holy confessors; Saint Anne, Saint Katharine and all the holy virgins and matrons; and for all the saints and holy company of heaven; be the power and authority of our Holy Father the Pope and his Cardinals, and of my said Lord Archbishop of Glasgow, and the advice and assistance of my Lords, Archbishop, bishops, abbots, priors and other prelates and ministries of the Holy Church.

I denounce, proclaim and declare to all and sundry, that the committing of the said pointless murders and slaughtering of innocents, burnings, cattle rustling, plundering, thefts and despoiling;  both openly in the daylight and under silence of night, as well as within Church property and on Church land; together with their partakers, assistants, suppliers, knowing receivers of their persons, the goods burnt and stolen by them, or any part thereof, and the counsellors and defenders of their evil deeds are generally cursed, loathed, detested, denounced and collectively curses (cursed?) with the great cursing.

Christians may not judge others upon their sins against God.

MAT 7: 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
MAT 7: 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
LUK 6: 37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

MAT 12: 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Wording of the Anti-Christian Curse of Bishop Gavin Dunbar

I curse their heads and all the hairs of their heads, I curse their faces, their eyes, their mouths, their noses, their tongues, their teeth, their chins, their shoulders, their breasts, their hearts, their stomachs, their backs, their sexual organs, their arms, their legs, their hands, their feet and every like part of their body, from the top of their heads to the souls of their feet, before and behind (fronts and backs), within and without.

I curse them going and curse them riding; I curse them standing and I curse them seated; I curse them eating, I curse them drinking; I curse them walking, I curse them sleeping; I curse them risen, I curse them lying down; I curse them at home, I curse them out of the home; I curse their wives and I curse their children, and their servants and all who participate with them in what they decide.

I come against their friends, their cattle, their wool, their sheep, their swine, their geese, their hens all their livestock.  I come against their halls, their bedrooms, their kitchens, their standings, their barns, their cowsheds, their barnyards, their cabbage patches, their ploughs, their harrows and the goods and houses which are necessary for their sustenance and their welfare.

All the maliciousness and curses which ever a worldly creature since the beginning of the world to this hour, might land upon them.  The wrath of God which landed upon Lucifer (Satan) and all his fellow demons, that struck them from the high heavens to deep hell, may it land (alight) upon them.  The fire and the sword which stopped Adam from the gates of Paradise (Eden) may they stop them from the glory of Heaven, until they forebear and make amends.

The maliciousness that alighted upon and cursed Cain when he slew his brother Abel with guilt, may alight on those who are guilty of slaughter which they commit daily.  The maliciousness which alighted upon all the world, upon man and beast and upon all that ever took life, when all was drowned in the flood of Noah, except for Noah and his ark must have been upon them and drowned them, both man and beast, making this realm deeply troubled by them and their wicked sins.

The thunder and fire balls which rained down on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and all the lands around them, and burnt them, for their vile lifestyles, must rain down upon them and turn them to consume them with fire for their open sin.  The maliciousness and confusion which alighted upon the giants for their oppression and pride, building the tour or Babylon must confound them and all their works, for their open plunder and oppression.  All the plagues which fell upon Pharaoh and his people of Egypt, their lands, crops and animals must fall upon them, their farmlands, homes, steadings and milk-sheds.

The waters of the River Tweed and other river waters through which they ride through must drown them, as the Red Sea drowned Pharaoh’s people from Egypt while rescuing God’s people of Israel.  The earth must tear and split open and swallow them alive into hell as it swallowed the cursed Dathan and Abiram who rebelled against Moses and the command of God.  The wildfire which burnt Korah and his followers to the number of 250, and another 14,000 and 7,000 at once, usurpers against Moses and Aaron, the servants of God, not suddenly and without warning burn and consume them, but daily, for standing against the commands of God and the Holy Church.

The maliciousness, the malediction which fell suddenly upon fair Absalom, when riding through the wood to confront his father, King David, servant of God, the branches of one tree lifted him from his horse and hanged the heir, just as it lies upon true Scottish men to hang them in the same manner, for all the world to see.  The malediction, the curse which landed upon Nebuchadnezzar’s lieutenant, Holofernes for warring and persecuting true Christian men; the malediction which alighted upon Judas, Pilate, Herod and the Jews who crucified Our Lord, and all the plagues and tribulations which alighted on Jerusalem thereafter, and upon Simon the Sorcerer for his attempting to buy Godly blessings, bloody Nero, the cursed Ditius Makcensisu, Olibruis, Julianus the Apostate and the rest of the cruel tyrants who slew and murdered Christ’s holy servants, must alight upon them for their tyranny, murder and martyring of Christian people.

And all the vengeance that ever has been taken since the beginning of the world for open sins and all the plagues and pestilence that ever befell man or beast might fall on them and on them for their open plundering and theft, senseless slaughter shedding of innocent blood.  I sever, excommunicate and part them from the Church of God and deliver them vigorously to the devil of hell, as the Apostle Saint John delivered the Corinthians.  I prohibit and bar the places to which they go for divine services and ministerings of the Sacraments of the Holy Church, except the sacraments of Baptism allegiance, and forbid all Churchmen to hear confessions or to absolve them of their sins, until they first be absolved of this cursing.

I forbid all Christian men and women to have any company with them; to eat, drink, speak, pray, lie with, walk with, stand with or in any other thing or way do with them, on pain of deadly sin.  I discharge all marriage bands, acts, contracts, oaths and obligations made to them by any persons, other of law, kindness, Christian obligation so long as they sustain this cursing allowing that no man e burdened to them, and that this burdened to all men.  I take from them and call down all the good deeds that you did or shall do, until you rise from this cursing.  I declare them time-wasters of all Matins, Masses, Evensongs, dirges or other prayers, on the Bible of the Rosary; for all pilgrimages and almsgiving done or to be done in the Holy Church or to be Christening people, enduring this cursing.

And, finally, I condemn them perpetually to the deep pit of hell, to remain with Lucifer and all his kind, and their bodies to the gallows of the town hill, first to be hanged, then rent and torn with dogs and swine and other wild beasts, an abomination to all the world.  And their candles go from your sight, just as their souls go from the vision of God and their good fame from the world, until they forbear their open sins, before mentioned, and arise from this terrible cursing and make satisfaction and penance.”

Has the Curse been Granted? What was/is its Effect?

Having read this terrible curse, I do understand that the laity and mere believers of the Gospel would become extremely worried at its verse, as well as the deluded clergy of Pseudo-Christian churches. But certainly not a true Christians.

Even persons who has read the Gospel well, not per se believing it, would understand that the curse is so overtly Anti-Christ that it could never be admitted by God: for none comes to the Father but through Christ.  JOH  14: 6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  Cliff:  This tells us that all things we must ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Like the baptism  – in his name alone.

But what about Satan, who clearly penetrated the heart of Gavin Dunbar and moved him to produce this curse?  Could he have answered it?
Well, Satan loves none; he only inflicts misery. So as he moved the reivers, so he moved Bishop Gavin Dunbar: and indeed, as an answer to Gavin Dunbar, he could turn upon the reivers and execute the curse.  But the reivers continued into the early years of the 16th century, leaving us no proof of any extraordinary ills that have befallen them or theirs.

Moreover, any true Christians, and also mere believe, would have prayed forthwith, in the name of Jesus Christ, for God to annul the curse.  For they, too, would recall Christ’s promise to the faithful. So how could God possibly have admitted it, contrary to the message of the Gospel?

MAT  21: 22  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.  Obviously, this promise was given in the understanding that true believers, and certainly Christians, would not be motivated to ask vanity (Mercedes Benz, Lottery wins etc.) but only the things they truly need.

Christians know to find the biblical proof that, in this generation, God would not answer any curse: none.  Jesus only ever cursed a tree that hath no fruit for him to eat:

MAT  21: 19  And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

Conclusion to the above questions:

1st. Possibility:    Bishop Gavin Dunbar only wrote the curse as a political aid to the social turmoil caused by the reivers and the subsequent influx of complaints to his office.  But he did not cast the curse; not in his heart nor from his mouth, and neither did any of the priests who have read it.  Thus, the curse was never cast but only read: providing that writing or reading of a curse, indeed, is not casting it, as history demonstrates.
2nd. Possibility:    the Gospel-violating curse was absolutely not admitted by God and thus never had any effect.
3rd. Possibility:  the evil curse was granted by Satan and brought into effect upon the raiders, their wives and their children.
4th. Possibility:   the evil curse was granted by Satan but, through the prayers of the faithful, in the name of Jesus Christ, and just for them, because of their faith, the curse was annulled.
5th. Possibility:   the evil curse was granted by Satan, but through the prayers of the faithful, in the name of Jesus Christ, the curse was annulled and brought to no effect for all those upon whom it was cast.

I, teacher of the true Gospel of Jesus, knowing the Gospel, understanding it, teaching it, opening many eyes to the truth, can assure all who are concerned about this evil verse that God has NOT admitted the curse, for such authority was given to none in this generation of Christ.  Note also that, first and foremost, the surely called and chosen Apostle Paul understands, and tells us, that Christians must bless and NOT curse.  ROM 12: 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Below the facts of the Gospel, opposing the evil curse of Bishop Gavin Dunbar (a Bishop of men, from a church of men, in the name of men).

Jesus teaches:  MAT  5: 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Jesus teaches:  LUK  6: 37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Paul preached:  HEB  10: 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

MAT  5: 43  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
MAT  5: 44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
MAT  5: 45  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
MAT  5: 46  For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
MAT  5: 47  And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
MAT  5: 48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

LUK  6: 28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
LUK  6: 29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
LUK  6: 30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
LUK  6: 31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
LUK  6: 32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
LUK  6: 33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
LUK  6: 34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
LUK  6: 35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Apostle Paul preached:  ROM  12: 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

God to the people of the region of Cumbria, Northumberland, the Borders, and Dumfries and Galloway:

Them who have eyes, let him see!   Carlisle council, by the charge of God, has remained steadfast during the public and clerical upheaval about the Cursing Stone. They did not waver one inch. For if they had, God could not have manifested that which you now behold.  You have eyes, but they cannot see, like some have ears, but yet they cannot hear: for their attention is skewed off-course. Likewise, you behold not the Gospel of Jesus but instead permit the doctrines of men to divert your sight to darkness.

So says the Lord God on the Curse of Bishop Gavin Dunbar:

JOH  5: 43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
Why do you receive the Curse of Bishop Gavin Dunbar as valid, while Christ Jesus teaches you that it cannot be valid?
Even though I had it cast in stone as a sign to all the people, you, having eyes, cannot perceive: but you rebelled and turned to corruptible men of flesh and blood to annul that which is not, never has been and never can be.

Israel, Israel, Israel, when will you finally hear?  In the dessert you did not hear, in the promised land you did not hear, in Assyria, you did forbear: and now scattered over and wide, yet you decline to hear.

Surely, a fool will sow his seeds on shallow ground, and would they yet shoot, they soon wither and die.
But what kind of man will sow his seeds on a rock?  It is him whom I reveal to you as a deceiver:  the inanimate seeds of the blasphemous curse have landed on ae stane, where they as a testimony shall remain!

Note: Ae stane is a ‘stone’.

Blessings upon ye, my beloved Scotland, Frae the Borders to the northmaist shores O‘ the Shetland isles; Frae the western shores OSoay to the eastern shores OPeterhead. Blessings upon yer land, Constitution, law, statues, Government and nation, that ye may grow in strength, wealth, health and faith in Jesus Christ. Blessings upon ye against every fae from within and from without, that ye may subdue them to dust and trample them under yer feet.

Be it known and understood by all mankind, believing or unbelieving, that the office and title of Pope, Bishop, Cardinal or whatever kind of ecclesiastical office or title, does not render the office, nor the individual holy, neither bestows God upon them any exclusive rights to bless, curse or murder: for these titles and offices are of men.

All those who are accepted as holy by God have repented and have been baptised into the Church of Jesus, and only thus were they reborn of incorruptible seed and added to the Christian church. These are the holy; those free of sin: Christians.  Do not be fooled by ecclesiastical theatre, titles, degrees or wealth, but read the Gospel. For it is you and the Gospel in spirit and in truth.

Bishop Gavin Dunbar has exposed his self as a man of his time, not as a man of God.  And yes: a man of God is timeless.

Know ye that the congregation of Satan has posed as the Christian Church from the very beginning:

...And The Gates Of Hell Shall Not Prevail Against It
Through the ages, Catholics and other Nicolaitans defied the above quotation by Jesus,
oppressing and murdering many, deceiving and misleading many more.
But they have not and shall not prevail against
'His Church'.
